The plan to build the 1,300-bedroom dorm for the University of Chicago is waiting to get the approval from the City of Chicago. This multi-building complex is all set to come up to the corner of 61st Street and Woodlawn Avenue.
It will be called as the Woodlawn Residential Commons. There is a plan to open the complex in 2020. But, for this, they need the approval to construct the building and it is expected to happen this month.
The Plan Commission of Chicago has released a draft agenda for March and this project of the University of Chicago features as one of the projects among many other development projects.
The monthly meeting is scheduled to take place on March 15 and there will be a vote for the plan. The University is hoping that their plan gets approved so that they can start the work on the complex as soon as possible.
The other prominent plans that need the nod from the Chicago Plan Approval committee are the 16-story rental building coming up on 1624 W. Division Street near Wicker Park’s Polish Triangle, 121 story building of DM Development and Wallin Gomez Architects next to Wicker Park Connection project, 9-story apartment plan at the of Sedgwick and Schillercorner in the Old Town neighborhood, etc.
