There is every chance for the city of Chicago to see more than 80,000 electric cars on its roads by the next decade. For this to be a reality, it is important for the government to install thousands of charging points in the city to power the vehicles.
A new study by the Illinois PIRG Education Fund and the Frontier Group has suggested that the use of electric cars will increase like anything by 2030. It is not just Chicago, but many of the other US cities will also be seeing electric cars on its roads.
There is a huge demand for the electric vehicles now and this is only going to increase every passing year. There is an estimation that the United States will be having over 15 million electric vehicles on its roads by 2050.
If the Chicago city is to have 80,000 EVs on the road by 2030, then it would need more than 2,700 charging stations to offer publicly. At present, there are just 300 charging stations offered to the public.
It is important for the city to plan for this increase in EV cars beforehand. There is good work done by the city in this regard and it needs to do a lot more to make this a smooth transition.
