Former school teacher in Chicago accused of sexually abusing a minor

The 28-year-old teacher had sexual contact with the 16-year-old teenager last June. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the case.

CHICAGO, Illinois. An ex-teacher from the Horizon Science Academy Southwest Chicago charter school in the Gage Park neighborhood faces charges of sexually abusing a 16-year-old teenager.

According to Chicago police, Megan Kotarski, 28, was charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a minor. Kotarski would had sexual contact with the teenager between June 16th and 18th.

The former high school teacher volunteered at the Harrison district police station.

Police confirmed that the accusations submitted correspond to an investigation conducted for inappropriate conduct.

“Because the allegations involved a minor, the school contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and the Chicago Police,” said Christopher Murphy, strategic growth and public relations director of Concept School to the Chicago Sun Times. .

According to media reports, the school administration, located at 5401 S Western Avenue, began an internal investigation on November 6th.

Kotarski, who had worked at the school since 2014, was put on administrative leave and officially resigned on November 10.

A spokeswoman for DCFS confirmed that the agency is investigating the case and that the investigation is pending.

Kotarski is expected to appear in court Wednesday.
